Johnny's Seeds probably puts it best by introducing these gorgeous long-day onions as "An onion so lovely, it's a shame to eat it." Producing very large bulbs that ripen up to 10 days earlier than other similar onions, 'Rossa di Milano' is an excellent choice for long-term storage (stable up to 6+ months under the right conditions) and for cooking, lending sweet, pungent flavor to pasta sauces, sautees, and even onion rings.
As long-day onions, 'Rossa di Milano' grows excellently in North America, and is hardy enough to tolerate cooler summers up to latitude 50° (as far north as Maine!). Rows should be spaced 18-30" apart, and starter plugs can be planted about every 8 inches for consistent harvest. As a bonus, these onions are resistant to thrips AND our Unity starter plugs have already been trimmed to start increasing bulb size as the spring goes on!
If you buy 10 or more plug starters, save $0.25 on each!
