The Ambrosia husk cherry is a naturally wrapped fruit, similar to tomatillo, that is named for the food of the gods, due to its golden appearance and its extraordinary flavor, with hints of coconut, pineapple, and citrus.

Mature plants can grow to 3-4' tall and wide as small bushes, and although they are annual in the northeast, they are perennial in more southern ranges.

New for 2025! The New Hanover husk cherry is another cultivar of husk cherry, also noted for its incredible flavor and beating all other entries at an American Institute of Wine and Food tasting. This cultivar is also noted for its interesting botanical history, as it was preserved by heirloom seed collector Katie Hoffman Slonaker, based out of south-central Pennsylvania.
