Originating from African-American communities around the Chesapeake in the 19th century, fish peppers are an attractive ornamental and edible pepper, noted for their naturally variegated foliage and vibrant peppers that range in color from cream white to dark red; these peppers also range widely in heat level, from 5,000-30,000 Scoville units.

A relatively compact variety, plants grow to approximately 2' tall and spread fairly wide, so they grow best when spaced 18-24" apart; compact natural also makes them a great choice for ornamental plantings including low seasonal hedges and containers. Different color peppers will take different times to mature and can be picked at any time.
