Epimedium x 'Spine Tingler' (Barrenwort)

Epimedium x 'Spine Tingler' is a unique, showy hybrid cultivar of barrenwort, a ground-hugging semi-evergreen perennial that absolutely loves dry shade envrionments. Growing to only 8-10" tall with red or purple veined foliage, 'Spine Tingler' is sure to stand out with its electrifying spiny leaves, deeply serrated on the leaf margins. Beyond its foliage, this cultivar also produces spidery yellow flowers with long trailing petals, sure to send shivers up and down your spine! This cultivar's yellow flowers are produced in the early spring atop erect flower stems and may add a couple inches to the plant's overall height.

Epimedium x 'Spin Tingler' prefers partial or full shade in average to fertile, medium to dry, well-drained soil. It is drought tolerant once established and spreads easily by rhizomes to form small colonies up to 2-3' wide. 'Spine Tingler' is best used in shady woodland gardens, rock gardens, along walkways, or as accent planting underneath larger trees or shrubs.
