Muhlenbergia capillaris (Muhly Grass) is a warm-season perennial grass noted for its soft green foliage and striking late season color. Though Muhly grass performs best with consistent watering in dry to medium well-drained soils, it is tolerant of poor, rocky soils, high heat and humidity, and drought, making it a great choice for low maintenance, drier landscapes. In addition, Muhly grass can grow well in well-draining containers, steep banks, and areas with high salt content, all of which make it a great grass for rehabilitation projects and slope stabilization.

Also called pink hair grass, Muhlenbergia capillaris grows to about three feet tall and wide, and produces large masses of airy, pink inflorescences in the early fall, which can grow up to over a foot in length. Flowers turn to tan seed plumes in winter, providing valuable forage for birds and off-season interest.
