Sedum ternatum, commonly known as woodland stonecrop, is a native perennial succulent noted for its usefulness as a versatile, mat-forming groundcover plant, with woodland stonecrop tolerating both intense full sun conditions as well as shaded woodland conditions. Growing to a very low height of typically less than six inches, Sedum ternatum is capable of spreading 12-18" per plant, making it a great pick for full sun or shaded rock gardens, containers, and dry woodland environments. In the late spring and early summer, woodland stonecrop produces a profuse bloom of starry white flowers that are perfect for attracting and supporting a variety of native pollinators.

In addition to its pollinator value, woodland stonecrop's evergreen, succulent foliage adds interest through the year as well as providing a welcome food source to small mammals. Like many succulents, Sedum ternatum thrives on some neglect and is very low maintenance even shortly after planting. Excessively wet areas should be avoided for planting, as woodland stonecrop is highly susceptible to root rot thanks to its shallow rhizomes.
