Acer palmatum var. dissectum 'Crimson Queen' is a purple, cut-leaved Japanese maple cultivar popular for its attractive spring and summer purples, its showy cut-leaved foliage, and high sun tolerance. In addition, 'Crimson Queen' shows off its best colors in the fall, when foliage brights to a vibrant crimson red. Growing to only 6-10 feet tall, 'Crimson Queen' makes for an excellent focal point and specimen tree in any landscape, but especially those with lots of greenery where the reds contrast beautifully.

'Crimson Queen' Japanese maple prefers slightly acidic, well-draining soil, and should be protected from strong winds due to its tender branches. Although other cultivars may suffer from leaf burn in full sun, 'Crimson Queen' responds to brighter light with more vibrant burgundy purple hues; although it tolerates full sun, 'Crimson Queen' should be carefully looked after in hot, dry summers. As a bonus, this cultivar's compact size allows it to be grown as an excellent container plant.

Marylanders Plant Trees

From the Maryland Department of Natural Resources:

"We launched Marylanders Plant Trees in 2009 to encourage citizens and organizations to partner with the State to plant new trees. Today, citizens can still take advantage of our coupon program to receive $25 off the purchase of a native tree at 86 participating nurseries across the State. The State cost of $20 per coupon is funded through a settlement from a major power generator for Clean Air Act violations, in partnership with the Office of the Attorney General, and Maryland’s participating tree vendors are generously absorbing the remaining $5.

Trees must be planted in the state of Maryland to qualify for $25 off coupon.
Wholesale customers do not qualify.
