Dryopteris lepidopda, also called sunset fern, is a colorful and showy fern native to China. Growing to about 2-3' tall and wide, clumping, evergreen fern fronds will emerge with a stunning red orange, with shades of pink foliage before maturing to a glossy, deep olive green throughout the summer season.

Though Dryopteris lepidopda is not native to the US, it is popular as an ornamental fern for its attractive color and evergreen foliage, and does not show any indicators of becoming invasive over time. Sunset fern can spread fairly easily, but does not spread aggressively, making it a great choice for woodland gardens.
