Thuja occidentalis 'Emerald Green' is a bright green, upright cultivar of arborvitae that is perfectly suited for use in the home garden due to its deep green, evergreen foliage and its moderate size of 10-15' tall and mature width of only 3-4'. Upright, narrow structure makes these arborvitae the perfect choice for hedge and border screen plantings, but dense foliage also makes 'Emerald Green' an excellent specimen tree, either manicured in its natural, narrow pyramidal shape, or as topiary.

'Emerald Green' arborvitae prefers full sun, and average soil moisture and consistency, but also tolerates some shade, as well as deer damage, cold, and drought once established. Although it does not flower, Thuja occidentalis 'Emerald Green' attracts small birds and wildlife by offering cover and shelter; arborvitae is also a key host butterfly and moth larvae. Wide environmental resistance, wide ecological appeal, and a striking display of evergreen foliage makes these small trees an excellent addition to the home landscape.

Marylanders Plant Trees

From the Maryland Department of Natural Resources:

"We launched Marylanders Plant Trees in 2009 to encourage citizens and organizations to partner with the State to plant new trees. Today, citizens can still take advantage of our coupon program to receive $25 off the purchase of a native tree at 86 participating nurseries across the State. The State cost of $20 per coupon is funded through a settlement from a major power generator for Clean Air Act violations, in partnership with the Office of the Attorney General, and Maryland’s participating tree vendors are generously absorbing the remaining $5.

Trees must be planted in the state of Maryland to qualify for $25 off coupon.
Wholesale customers do not qualify.
