Buxus microphylla Sprinter®, also called Sprinter boxwood, is an improved form of 'Winter Gem' boxwood, noted for its faster growth rate and more upright growth habit. The Sprinter® cultivar is also noted for its glossy, evergreen foliage, with new growth emerging light green, making for consistent year-round interest. In addition, Sprinter® has excellent resistance to deer browsing, as well as tolerance to harsh winters and salt exposure. This boxwood cultivar produces small, inconspicuous white-green flowers in the spring, and although flowers are small, they still attract pollinators.

This variety's more upright habit, growing to up to four feet tall, makes it an excellent choice for hedges, borders, and foundation plantings; faster growth means a fuller hedgerow than other varieties over a much shorter period of time. Buxus microphylla Sprinter® tolerates all levels of light, but full sun will result in the fastest growth. care should be taken when choosing a suitable planting location for Buxus microphylla Sprinter® as it may be susceptible to pest insects and pathogens that spread from other boxwoods.
