Eutrochium purpureum, previously called Eupatorium purpureum and commonly called sweet Joe Pye weed, is a tall, upright wildflower perfect for a variety of large gardens. Thriving in fill sun and semi-shaded woodlands, sweet Joe Pye weed is one of the best butterfly magnets on the market. Eutrochium purpureum grows to 4-7' tall with a spread of about 2-4' and produces a profusion of small, fragrant, purple-pink flowers in large clusters atop its central stems; flowers are highly attractive to a large variety of butterflies, and plants can serve as host to a number of larval butterfly and moth species.

Although it can take up a lot of space, sweet Joe Pye weed is relatively low maintenance, only requiring full sun to part shade and medium-wet soil with good drainage, Although it's most popular for attracting pollinators, once flowers have faded, Joe Pye also attracts a variety of songbirds with its seed, making it a valuable addition to any number of locations around the home.
