Solidago speciosa (Showy Goldenrod) Unity Grown

Solidago speciosa, commonly called showy goldenrod for its large, showy spikes of golden yellow flowers, is a common North American goldenrod species that blooms from the late summer into the fall. At a relatively compact, upright size of two to three feet tall, showy goldenrod can easily add another foot to its height with its incredible floral display, and its profuse flowers don't go unnoticed by pollinators, with the plant acting as a food source and host plant to a number of flies, beetles, bees, and butterflies.

Not as aggressive as some goldenrod species, Solidago speciosa mainly reproduces by seed, and requires medium dry sandy loams and full sun or part shade to put on the best floral show. Though not as aggressive as some species, showy goldenrod can become more aggressive in nutrient rich, moister soils; as with all goldenrods, Solidago speciosa is environmental hardy and tolerant of a variety of factors including poor, rocky soils, drought conditions, and deer browsing.
