Pycnanthemum muticum, also called clustered mountain mint or blunt mountainmint, is a medium-sized, clump-forming perennial, related to the mint family. Clustered mountain mint grows to between one and three feet high, and spreads easily, forming clumps up to three feet wide. Throughout the summer, Pycnanthemum muticum produces small, dense clusters of pinkish white flowers that are attractive to pollinators; flowers bloom atop silvery-white specialized leaves called bracts that help to draw in pollinators. With its showy pink-white flower clusters and specialized silver leaves, clustered mountainmint is a striking addition for bumblebees, butterflies, and gardeners all summer long.
As a member of the mint family, clustered mountain mint produces a strong spearmint odor when its leaves are crushed, and is also capable of spreading via rhizomes, though it is not as invasive as the true mints. Compared to other mountain mint species, Pycnanthemum muticum produces similar flowers, but has more ovate leaves, and is less resistant to drought.
