Physostegia virginiana 'Pink Manners' is an upright, clump-forming, cultivar of obedient plant, also called false dragonhead, noted for its light rose-pink flowers, taller height than other obedient plant cultivars, and its less aggressive rhizomatic growth. The name obedient plant refers to the plant's unique flowers that can be prodded into different angles, and will 'obediently' stay in place. Obedient plant is typically found in wetter locations, like lowland forests and floodplain meadows, across much of the eastern half of North America.
This cultivar of Physostegia virginiana grows to about 30-42" tall in clumps of about 18-20" wide, and produces tall spikes of light pink flowers that bloom from early to late summer; the 'Pink Manners' cultivar is set apart by its consistently upright, non-flopping behavior and its relatively compact habit over the straight species. Though the parent species can also be a bit of an aggressive spreader, 'Pink Manners' is also noted because it forms small clumps instead. Physostegia virginiana 'Pink Manners' is a great plant for pollinator gardens, handles occasion inundation very well, and makes for great cut flower arrangements.
