Buxus microphylla Sprinter®, also simply called Sprinter boxwood, is an improved form of the 'Winter Gem' boxwood, noted for its faster growth rate and upright growth habit, as well as its deer resistance and general hardiness. Just like the 'Winter Gem' cultivar, Sprinter® boxwood is noted for its glossy, evergreen foliage, in shades of light and dark green, making for consistent year-round interest; since Sprinter® has a faster growth rate, it will also fill in faster for hedges and topiary use. This boxwood cultivar produces small, inconspicuous white-green flowers in the spring, and although flowers are small, they still attract pollinators like honeybees and hoverflies.

This variety's habit, growing to 2-4' tall and wide, makes it an excellent choice for hedges, borders, and foundation plantings as well as it does neatly manicured specimen plants.  Sprinter® boxwood tolerates all levels of light, but full sun will result in the fastest, fullest growth. Some care should be taken when choosing a suitable planting location for Buxus microphylla Sprinter® as it may be susceptible to pest insects and pathogens, like box tree moth and boxwood blight, that easily spread between different types of boxwood.
