Baptisia x Decadence® 'Lemon Meringue' is a yellow-flowering hybrid false indigo noted for its vibrant, long-lasting flowers. Hybridized from two US native wild indigos, Baptisia sphaerocarpa and Baptisia alba var. alba, 'Lemon Meringue' has all of the same native appeal to butterflies, bumblebees, and other pollinators from late spring to early summer but with beautiful spikes of profuse, yellow flowers that bring to neon yellow lemon meringue pies.

Growing to around 3' tall and wide when planted in average to dry soils and full or partial sun, this cultivar's striking lemon-yellow flowers give way to persistent, attractive, dark seed pods in late summer which last through the fall and winter, and which serve as an important food source to late season birds. Once established, 'Lemon Meringue' is drought and salt tolerant and tolerates poor and acidic soils, and its versatility and hardiness make it a great choice for meadows, pollinator gardens, or flower beds.

In addition to its obvious landscaping appeal, Baptisia x Decadence® 'Lemon Meringue' also provides the look of a finished plant much faster than other Baptisia cultivars, which won it a 4.8 out of 5 possible points and a place as a Top Performer in Mt. Cuba Center's Trial Gardens.
