Mimulus ringens, commonly called Allegheny monkey flower, is a native perennial wildflower found in wetlands, streambanks, and swamp areas throughout much of the contiguous United States. Growing to a mature height of one to three feet tall, Allegheny monkey flower blooms through the summer and into the early fall, producing pale purple flowers that, according to some, resemble a monkey's face. Flowers are highly attractive to butterflies, bees, hummingbirds, and other pollinators.

Mimulus ringens prefers moist to wet loams in full sun, and is tolerant of deer browsing, wet soil, and occasional flooding. Thanks to its ability to reseed over time, Allegheny monkey flower is an excellent addition to accents around ponds or bodies of water or in rain garden plantings.
