Rudbeckia laciniata (Cutleaf Coneflower) Unity Grown

Rudbeckia laciniata, also called cutleaf coneflower, is a sunflower-like perennial wildflower, closely related to black-eyed Susans. As a large wildflower, Rudbeckia laciniata has narrow, branching stalks that can grow from 3-10' tall though typically much closer to around 4' when grown in gardens or home landscapes. Typically found in open woodland environments or along creeks and rivers across much of North America, Rudbeckia laciniata produces large, multi-lobed 'cut' leaves and 3-4" yellow flowers with a yellow-green center from mid-summer to late fall.

Moderately deer-resistant and beneficial for pollinators and birds, cutleaf coneflower tolerates a wide range of environments, including a range of soil types and a range of light levels; due to its native habitats being shaded or wet, Rudbeckia laciniata prefers medium-moist soils, and can tolerate full sun all the way to full shade. While cutleaf coneflower can be used in home landscapes, such as rain or pollinator gardens, Rudbeckia laciniata may be a better choice for naturalized borders or woodland gardens due to its potential to spread rapidly and its relatively large size once established.
