Phlox subulata 'Emerald Blue' is a cultivar of creeping phlox, a low growing, mat-forming, native evergreen perennial known for its flowers. The 'Emerald Blue' cultivar is so named for the flowers the phlox produces in the mid to late spring which are lavender-blue in appearance, and slightly darker than the blooms of 'Oakington Blue Eyes.'
Also commonly referred to as moss phlox, creeping phlox is an excellent ground-cover plant, only growing to 4-6" tall but spreading easily. 'Emerald Blue' also grows well in a wide-variety of soils, provided that it's well-draining, meaning that it works for edgings and border as well as container growing.
