Amsonia hubrichtii, commonly referred to as threadleaf or Hubricht's bluestar, is an attractive, clumping wildflower native to prairie and open forest environments on only one mountain range between Arkansas and Oklahoma. Naturally forming clumps of dense, shrub-like foliage, threadleaf bluestar produces profuse blue-gray star-shaped flowers in mid spring, which attract butterflies and pollinators. Growing to a mature height of 2-3' tall, though prone to flopping, Amsonia hubrichtii is also noted for its vibrant golden-yellow fall foliage which looks stunning when planted in masses.

Hubricht's bluestar grows best with full sun to partial shade, with its showy blue flowers lasting longer when provided with some shelter from intense summer sun. With this species' spring flowers, followed by summer greens and fall yellow hues, it provides attractive 3-season interest to border plantings, rain and rock gardens, and flower beds. Natural resistance to deer grazing and poor soil quality also make Amsonia hubrichtii an excellent choice for meadow restoration projects too!
