Tiarella cordifolia 'Brandywine' is a cultivar of foamflower, a small, native perennial wildflower, grown for its attractive groundcover foliage and spikes of white flowers; in the case of the 'Brandywine' cultivar, the foliage consists of wide-lobed green leaves with deep, wine-colored central veins. While the 'Brandywine' cultivar's foliage grows to only 8-12" tall, the taller spikes of bold, creamy white blooms can reach up to 18".
While compact in nature, foamflowr also spreads via runners in the spring and fall, making for an effective groundcover or mass planting that chokes out weeds as it goes. Through fall and winter, the 'Brandywine' cultivar's glossy, semi-evergreen leaves fade to a bronze color, adding an eye-catching element to cold-season landscapes. Tiarella cordifolia 'Brandywine' grows best in partial to full shade and medium-moist, rich soils, and its bitter leaves tend to be enough to keep away grazing rabbits and deer, making for a long-lasting and beautiful shade planting.
