Red-veined sorrel is an attractive, perennial, low-growing herb plant with red-veined bright green leaves. Leaves have a tangy taste with hints of citrus. Commonly used raw in salads, sorrel can also be cooked and used in ways similar to spinach.

Mature plants typically reach about 12" in both height and width, and excel in a variety of light levels and conditions. Although sorrel is often treated as an annual, it is a hardy perennial that produces leaves throughout the entire year; old leaves get bitter, so it's important to harvest younger leaves for eating. Harvesting leaves regularly can also prevent sorrel from spreading.
