Oenothera lindheimeri 'Belleza Dark Pink' is a striking cultivar of wandflower, previously known as Gaura lindheimeri, an upright, perennial evening primrose relative. Named for its gorgeous magenta flowers, 'Belleza Dark Pink' produces delicate, airy flowers on long stems that resemble dark pink butterflies in flight when flowers sway in the breeze. Though other cultivars like 'Siskiyou Pink' and 'Whirling Butterfly' offer similar grace, this cultivar's blooms are pink tinged with darker fuchsia pink nectar guides; these flowers contrast beautiful with vibrant green spring and summer foliage.
Oenothera lindheimeri enjoys a long bloom season, producing flowers from late spring or early summer into the beginning of fall on panicles that grow 1-2' high from a roughly 2' wide, clumped base of pink-tinged green foliage. Though spent flower spikes can occasionally flop when they get too tall, cutting blooms back will result in more consistent re-blooms through the season. Tolerant of many soil conditions and types, Oenothera lindheimeri performs best in full sun and moist but well-drained sandy loam, though it will tolerate drought and poor soils. 'Belleza Dark Pink' blooms are attractive to butterflies, pollinators, and florists alike, as flower spikes make for great additions to cut flower arrangements, and will serve as a gorgeous, upright accent in small spaces, meadows, or planters.
