Aquilegia canadensis 'Little Lanterns' is a dwarf cultivar of columbine, a short-lived, spring-blooming, perennial that produces showy red and yellow blooms from spring into early summer. Though blooms are showy, they are also very little, as the cultivar name implies; as a dwarf cultivar, 'Little Lanterns' grows in bushy upright clumps of only 8-10" tall and flowers are only about half an inch to an inch wide. This short lived, spring blooming, perennial is easy to grow and will self seed to form large colonies.

Aquilegia canadensis prefers average or organically rich well-drained soils in part shade, and can be found in the wild in partly shaded woodland environments. An excellent addition to any small, shaded space, 'Little Lanterns' is also an excellent choice for underplanting in beds or for use in fairy gardens.
