'Black Adder' is hybrid cultivar of two Agastache species, Agastache foeniculum and Agastache rugosa and, as a result, produces the best of both worlds in the home garden: upright, attractive lavender flowers emerge from dark purple to black buds, and are produced from mid summer until the first frosts of fall, attracting butterflies, hummingbirds, and other pollinators.

This easy to grow giant hyssop/anise hyssop hybrid typically reaches two to three feet tall, though flower spikes can bring the total height closer to four feet. 'Black Adder' prefers locations with full sun and well drained soil with average moisture, but is drought and dry soil tolerant once established. Like all Agastache species, plant tissues are fragrant when bruised, making them resistant to both rabbit and deer browsing. As a hybrid of a native and non-native species, this cultivar has a ton of pollinator appeal, but may not be appropriate for native plant purists.
