September Plant Spotlights
Wood's Purple
(Aster)
Dryopteris erythrosora 'Brilliance'
(Autumn Fern)
Amazing multi-color fern selection for a variety of small garden spaces in partial or full shade. About 2’ tall and wide in small clumps, this fern’s semi-evergreen foliage turns to stunning shades of salmon-pink and red in the fall and winter. Although not a native selection, ‘Brilliance’ fern works wonderfully to add color and texture to a variety of fern and woodland gardens.
Hydrangea arborescens Invincibelle Mini Mauvette®
(Dwarf Smooth Hydrangea)
Adorable dwarf Hydrangea cultivar noted for its showy pink and purple puffball flowers. Grows to only 2-3’ tall and wide and produces showy flowers later than other hydrangea cultivars. Pair with another, earlier blooming dwarf Hydrangea like Hydrangea quercifolia ‘Munchkin’ for variety in textures, flowers, and fall foliage!
Nyssa sylvatica ‘Wildfire’
(Black Tupelo)
Showy mid-size tree with excellent fall color and a ton of wildlife appeal. Grows to around 20-50’ tall and 20-30’ wide in full sun or partial shade. Striking bright scarlet red fall foliage makes this tree a treat as we head into fall (limited quantities available). Underplant with a fall-blooming selection like Osmanthus heterophyllus 'Gulftide' for a real multi-season show. As a bonus, ‘Gulftide’ is part of our Labor Day shrub sale!
