Paeonia lactiflora is a medium height peony, a shrubby perennial grown for its attractive green foliage and large, fragrant, showy flowers. Paeonia typically reach between three and four feet high at full maturity, though some cultivars are slightly shorter, and grow best in well-drained, fertile soils. Peonies are attractive to butterflies and are long-lived, deer- and rabbit-resistant, and easy to maintain throughout their active growth windows, only requiring dead-heading of expired blooms.
'Heidi,' also known as 'Heidi Cap,' is a semi-doubled pink peony cultivar in a family of cultivars called Anemone-style peonies, which have an outer layer of wide, rounded pink petals and an inner center ring of fluffy petaloids tinged with a lighter shade of pink.
