Malus domestica 'Golden Delicious' is one of the best known apple cultivars noted for its pure yellow coloration, firm, occasionally mealy texture, and sweet taste. Perfect for baking and for turning into cider, 'Golden Delicious' apples are ready for harvest in September, and are best enjoyed fresh, as they can wither over time, but can last with appropriate storage until the spring following harvest! Growing on dwarf or semi-dwarf rootstock to between 8' and 15' tall, 'Golden Delicious' makes for a great shade or specimen tree that provides yellow fruit into the fall.

Malus domestica grows best in well-drained moderately fertile, loams, and produces showy white-pink, fragrant flowers in early spring, which attract a variety of pollinators.

Apple trees require cross-pollination to produce fruit, and therefore require at least one pollinating partner for successful fruit harvest; some of these for 'Golden Delicious' include 'Granny Smith' and 'Pristine.'

Marylanders Plant Trees

From the Maryland Department of Natural Resources:

"We launched Marylanders Plant Trees in 2009 to encourage citizens and organizations to partner with the State to plant new trees. Today, citizens can still take advantage of our coupon program to receive $25 off the purchase of a native tree at 86 participating nurseries across the State. The State cost of $20 per coupon is funded through a settlement from a major power generator for Clean Air Act violations, in partnership with the Office of the Attorney General, and Maryland’s participating tree vendors are generously absorbing the remaining $5.

Trees must be planted in the state of Maryland to qualify for $25 off coupon.
Wholesale customers do not qualify.
