A common plant in older gardens, Deutzia is a relatively unremarkable shrub for most of the year, aside from when it flowers in May, becoming a striking, showy plant covered from top to bottom in white to pink flowers; the 'Yuki Cherry Blossom®' hybrid cultivar from Thomas Ranney at North Carolina State University forgoes the boring white hues of some of its relatives to produce a shower of lightly fragrant light pink flowers reminiscent of Japanese cherry blossoms.

With a neat, mounded growth habit smaller than other Deutzia and burgundy-purple fall color, this adaptable shrub has more multi-season interest than its relatives. 'Yuki Cherry Blossom® works well in mass plantings, but especially as a low, ground-cover style planting on slopes and near foundations; this Deutzia also works great in pollinator gardens, since spring flowers are highly attractive to a number of pollinators, including hummingbirds.
